Isaiah 43:18 (KJV) “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.”
As we stand at the threshold of a new season and a new year, the Almighty God is calling us to release what is behind so we can fully embrace what lies ahead of us. The past – whether marked by success, failure, pain, or regret – can become a weight that hinders new progress. Past victories can bring about unhealthy contentment, while past failures can produce discouragement. Also, dwelling on past pain can blind us to present possibilities. Please, note that this is not a call to erase memory, but to refuse to live under the control of the past.
In the new year, beginning tomorrow by God’s grace, the LORD God will do a new thing in our lives and families; it shall spring forth, and you will know it and testify, in the precious name of Jesus Christ (Isa. 43:19). The LORD our God specializes in new beginnings. He makes ways in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, places where progress seems impossible. In the new year, we will have to be intentional in our focus on the new things the LORD our God has in store for us. We must give no room to distractions of any kind and from anyone. Letting go of the past is not denial; it is faith. It is trusting that God’s future is greater than anything behind us. Hallelujah!
