Gen 1:26-28 (KJV) “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ... [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. [28] And God BLESSED them ...”
One of the greatest forces in this world is the BLESSING. When the LORD God created man, the “first thing” He did to man was to bless him. Why? Because of the importance and power of the blessing. A blessing is a statement of prosperity said over a person, animal, or a thing: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” To speak a particular kind of blessing over a person or a thing is to spiritually invoke a particularly type of prosperity on that thing or person.
Now, what is the importance and power of a blessing? The Bible says, “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it” (Pro 10:22; KJV). By implication, the blessing of the LORD is a “maker”; it has creative power. The opposite of a blessing is a curse; a curse is a destroyer. A blessing is so important such that when the LORD God called Abraham, the first thing He promised him was: “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” (Gen 12:2; KJV). The blessing is always a “first thing” in the activity of God in the life of a man. It is important to live under the blessing of the LORD; it brings ease into our lives.
